In order unlock carrier get it started, it requires heat, which can be created by inputting large amounts of RF into the reactor. Once the temperature has reached 8 MK Mega-Kelvin a reaction may be started. The amount of RF generated is based on the fuel types and the heat of the reactor.
It has a maximum temperature of 20, MK. The reactor will gain heat continuously while a reaction in in progress. The reaction can be disabled with a redstone signal applied to the bottom center block of the reactor.
While disabled the reactor will continue to output RF until its internal buffer is empty, after which it will begin quickly losing heat. The higher the temperature, the faster the heat is lost. This is the only way to lose heat; the reactor will not lose heat if it runs out of fuel.
The reactor will never drop below 7 MK in this fashion, so restarting the reactor only requires a minimal amount of energy. At lower efficiencies fuel will be consumed slower and will produce less RF each.
Multiple reactors may be combined by stacking them. This will increase RF output and fuel consumption in a linear fashion - for instance two reactors doubles the RF output and the amount of fuel consumed per tick, three reactors triples it, etc.
There is no limit to the number of reactors that can be stacked. All reactors use the inventory of the bottom reactor, so breaking and replacing any non-bottom reactor is safe. Getting Started (NuclearCraft)

Sometimes an appropriate chamber can be found on eBay, but generally it is best to make one. Get two stainless steel hemispheres, purchase two corresponding conflat-flanges 8" flanges in my casebore out holes for accessory flanges, and then TIG weld it all together.
Flanges are typically either of the KF or the conflat style. Conflat can be seen in the image below as the flanges with bolts, and KF kwik-flange are seen as those with only clamps holding an o-ring on the mating surface. Only weld on the inside, never on the outside since virtual leaks can be formed if both inside and outside are welded. If you've never TIG welded before, it would be wise to have someone with experience do it as the welds must be flawless with no pin-sized holes or porous areas to hold a vacuum.

After machining, thoroughly clean the chamber and avoid getting fingerprints in it since these will outgas, which means at vacuum pressure molecules in the oil of finger prints or machining oil will become vapor and make it hard to maintain plasma stability or reach a good ultimate vacuum level.
Install the oil diffusion pump or turbo pump if you have a bit of luck scrounging or a higher budget. Fill the pump with quality diffusion pump oil to whatever fill level the pump documentation suggests, attach the inlet to a valve which then connects to the chamber see diagramand attach the outlet to a mechanical backing pump capable of reaching at least around 75 microns any higher and the diffusion pump will not operate properly or the oil will oxidize quickly.
Make sure the pump is sufficiently cooled, many oil diffusion pumps require water cooling, smaller ones such as the one pictured can get by with a decent air flow. Once this is assembled, turn on the mechanical pump and wait for the vacuum to reach at least 75 microns. Next you can test the high vacuum pump by turning on the boiler on the diffusion pump. After it warms up could take a whilethe vacuum should rapidly drop below the single micron range.

The two indicators to the left show the temperature of the plasma and the case. The highest of the three on the right shows the internal energy storage and the ones beneath shows the amount of water and steam inside the reactor. The Fuel tab indicates the amount of fuel and the injection rate. Deuterium and Tritium consumption is equal to injection rate halved, per tick. The Statistics gives the user various technical information regarding injection rate, max temp, passive generation and steam production.
The Fusion Reactor will not start on its own. It requires an outside burst of energy from a charged Laser Amplifier and a small amount of D-T Fuel to begin the fusion process.
Once the reaction is jump started, it will begin consuming supplied Deuterium and Tritium, creating plasma and generating power. The Hohlraum stores 10 units of D-T Fuel required for the initial reaction.
To fill it up, place it into a Chemical Infuser which is combining Deuterium and Tritium. The statistics tab details the required ignition temperature for the reaction to begin. To reach this temperature, a Laser Amplifier must be charged with energy from several Lasers feeding into it, and fired into the Laser Focus Matrix. It must be injected in one big burst to prevent temperature from dissipating, so adding Redstone sensitivity or increasing the minimum energy required by the Amplifier will prevent it from firing prematurely.
With the Hohlraum in the Reactor Controller and enough energy stored in the Amplifier, fire the laser to begin the fusion reaction.
If a high enough temperature was achieved, you should immediately see and hear the reactor running.

Start by stockpiling all the NuclearCraft ores that you find. You'll need a lot. Unless other power options are available to get started, your first step is to create a Decay Generator to power your early machinery. Decay Generators generate power from the heat generated by the decay of adjacent uranium and thorium blocks - they are very inefficient so you'll want to upgrade pretty quickly.
Now craft your first NuclearCraft utility machine, the Manufactory. With it, you will create Crushed CoalGraphite Dust and Crushed Quartzand can also be used as a simple ore doubler if you choose.
The recipe is rather simple. It requires the first example of a NuclearCraft machine component: a Copper Solenoid. Now your power is a little more stable, make an Alloy Furnace. You'll be using this machine a lot, so you might want to make more than one.
If you already have a good RF power generation setup, consider adding some Speed Upgrades to your machines. The Isotope Separator is your next step and the most important parts of initial nuclear material processing. It separates materials into their constituent Isotopes. Once you have your Isotope Separator set up, it is time to build your first Fission Controllerthe heart of a Fission Reactor. The reactor has two input fuel tanks and four output product tanks.
